Fiber optics is a rapidly growing industry in both America and abroad, and for good reason. Despite being around since the 1970's, this clearly superior mode of transmitting data and communications has been stifled by the exorbitantly-high costs of laying down its complex infrastructure. Fortunately, with advancements in technology, the cost of fiber optics has become low enough to enable companies to begin offering it to consumers. At present, Verizon Fios is the largest and most consistent provider of fiber optics to individual consumers and families, and is broadly available. One of the applications in which the power of fiber optic transmission is easily apparent is internet. Just like 56k modems went the way of the buffalo when comparatively lightning-fast cable internet was released, Verizon Fios internet offers a significant increase in bandwidth, for both uploads and downloads. The efficient and noise-free way in which fiber optics work allow for an increased level of data transmission. Despite the lightning-fast connection speeds allowing for multimedia downloads to take mere seconds or a paltry few minutes, there are different tiers of service for different prices, some that are quite cheap and even slightly faster than standard cable internet. Here's an awesome site for learning more about Verizon Fios |
